Valmiki National Park stands in the district of West Champaran that comes within the premises of the Indian state of Bihar. This national is finely dispersed in a vivacious piece of land, covering an area of about 335.64 sq km and has been located in the western suburbs of the defensive area in Champaran, forming the North West part of the country.
History takes us back to its origin as this national park had been the forested area under the control of Bettiah Raj and Ramanagar Raj, which continued till the initial period of the year 1950. It is believed that the park derived its name from the two phrases Champa and Aranya, which means the Forest of Champa trees.
Ranked as 18th Tiger Reserve, Valmiki tiger Reserve makes a fine paradigm of the Himalayan Terai landscape, which is composed of rich flora and fauna. The forested area in the domain measures around 899.38 sq km, out of which the wildlife sanctuary is expanded to about 880 sq km and the national park takes its fraction of 335 sq km.
Two decades back, in the initial epoch of 1990, the Valmiki National Park made its presence felt as a conserving component of the nature by enveloping the different hued, endangered and majestic species, forming the fourth place in the domain f reserves, nestling the maximum numbers of tigers.
The placid waters of the river Gandak and the majestic hillocks of the Mount Everest along with the state of Uttar Pradesh abounds the western side of the national park and in the north the park is bordered by the neighboring country, Nepal.
The vegetation found in the Valmiki National Park of Bihar includes Sal, reed beads, cane and moist grasslands. The wildlife in the park is comprised of tiger, sloth bear, wolf, deer, serow, leopard, python, peafowl, cheetal, sambar, Nilgai, leopard, hyenas, Indian civet, jungle cat, hog, wild dog, single-horned rhinoceros and Indian bison.
The best time to discover and explore the magniloquent wildlife that makes its attendance is from October till March, as the climate is good, which will make you at an ease on your stroll in the park.
The nearest airport is at Patna, which is 295 km away from the park, while its nearest railhead is at the Valmiki Nagar only which is just at a distance of 5 km from the park. There are state buses available in Valmiki Nagar.
