The church was originally called by the name The Church of Our Lady of Divine Providence, was created out of laterite rocks and was named after the founder of the Theatine Order, St. Cajetan. The main altar is dedicated to Our Lady of Divine Providence; along with that the St. Cajetan Church has six Baroque style gilded altars which have figures of angels dominating twisted shafts.
At the left side in the church the three altars are dedicated to St. Clare, the Holy family and Our Lady of Piety whereas those appeared on the right are dedicated to St. Agnes, St. John and St. Cajetan. There are, Italian school paintings drawn of the canvas, over the altars that depicts the life events of St. Cajetan.
There is a basalt doorway that is situated within the church compound that consists of the relics of Adil Shahs palace, which comprises the two decorated pillars set on a stepped plinth. The entrance door however has carvings of Hindu deities and as per the Percival Noronha, the heritage expert the door was bought in 1930 and is an element of the Kadamba era Ganesha temple which is situated at the Divar Island.
