Chembarambakkam Lake

Chembarambakkam Lake

Chembarambakkam Lake rests in the district of Chengalpattu, which is just about 40 km from Chennai, the southernmost part of India. This rainwater fed lake also originates the Adyar River. The lake stands as one of the main sources of potable water, for the city. A part of water supply of the metropolis of Chennai is drawn from this lake.

The level of the tank is 85.40 ft with its capacity of 3,645 mc ft. The lake now is under the “green attack” because of growth of water hyacinth and pollution from the surrounding catchment area. The lake is dropping its water due to the attack by aquatic vegetation, according to a study of Centre for Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics, Sathyabama Deemed University.

There is another attraction of an old temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located next to the lake.
