The lake Hebbal is situated in the northern part of the south Indian city of Bangalore at the opening of National Highway 7, along the convergence of Bellary Road and the Outer Ring Road. The lake stands among the three lakes that were constructed by Kempe Gowda in 1537. The lake is spread over an area of about 150 acres of land and stands as an excellent terrain for bird watching activity.
Earlier the tank was used for the purpose of supplying drinking water. The lake water is also affected by the water hyacinth and is the najor reason for creating pollution in the region of Bangalore-Hyderabad Highway.
Today, the park is maintained under public-private partnership and the visitors are allowed to visit the lake from 6:30 in the morning till 9:30 in the morning itself. The place paves an ideal place for bird watching and renders the photographers to have ultimate pictures.
The place is home to many species of birds which includes Spot-billed Pelican, Eurasian Spoonbill, Shoveller, Pintail, Garganey, Little Grebe, Coot and Spot-billed Duck. We can also find sandpipers and other waders as well as Purple Moorhens, Purple Herons and Grey Herons in the shallow zone. The lake is a serene place with a variety of aquatic vegetation under the sheet of different colorful species of birds, making it a heavenly experience.
