Tipu Sultan Museum, situated at Srirangapatna in the district of Mandaiya of Karnataka state, India is an important place lies inside an ancient monument called Daria Daulat Bagh. Known as the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan, the monument has got great national importance. The museum here is exhibited with engraving, pencil sketches, oil paintings, aquatints, coins, oil paintings, medals, arms furniture, costumes etc. The ‘Seringapatam’, an oil painting by Sir Robert Ker Porter in 1800 is one of the great historical paintings depicting the final capture of Srirangapatna on 4th May 1799. Another portrait of Tipu Sultan depicting him wearing a turban, striped shirt, necklace, girth belt and a stone-studded cross belt to which is attached a sword was made by the artist G.F. Cherry in 1792 is also displayed at the museum.
In 1780, another famous artist John Zoffany painted a full portrait of Tip Sultan is also beautifully exposed at the museum. Made up of wood, the interior walls of the museum have ornate designs and floral motifs, along with murals on the outer walls. The museum is displayed with the maps of Tipu Sultan’s forts and his dominions, medals awarded by Tipu and coins used during Hyder Ali and Tipu’s reign. Except on government holidays, Tipu Sultan museum can be visited on all the days from 10 am to 5 pm.
