Mysore rail museum was established in 1979 and was Mysore Railway Museum was the first Regional Railway Museum in India. The museum provides the glimpse of the history of Indian railways and a closer look of the ostentatious royal carriages. The museum exhibits an amazing and informative collection of photographs and objects related to the development of the railways, with an impressive display of locomotives. The royal coaches which belonged to the Maharaja of Mysore, is one of the main attractions at the museum. On the other hand, children will love the toy train which operates on battery and takes a round tour of the museum.


The museum showcases the carriages or the trains in which the royalties used to travel. There is also the Maharani’s saloon carriage, which has a dining car unit, a royal toilet and a kitchen that dates as far back as 1899. Apart from that, there are various other locomotives that are beautifully exhibited in the museum.


The museum remains open on all the days except on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. the entry fee for adults in the museum is Rs 10 and for children it is Rs. 5.
