Nestled in the lap of Daulahadhar River, at an altitude of 1215 m is blessed with serenity and beauty. this word Palampur is derived from a local phrase ‘Pulum’ meaning lots of water. The town came into limelight after a superintendent of Botanical Gardens, Dr. Jameson introduced tea bush from Almora in the town. Palampur is also considered as the tea capital of northwest India. Located on the rising slopes of Kangra Valley and just behind the city the valley merges with the Daulahadhar ranges. It was a part of the local Sikh kingdom but later on came under the British rule. Climate of Palampur
The weather in Palampur is constantly pleasant almost all around the year, making the months from September to June as the ideal period to visit Manali. Here winters are very cold, having temperatures even below zero degree level. Snowfall is a common phenomenon in winters. Summers here stats off with the month of March and remains there in the scene till June, when further the monsoon takes its hold till September.
