Marble Palace

Constructed by Raja Rajendro Mullick in 1835, Marble Palace of Kolkata is a palatial nineteenth-century mansion, which happens to stand in the northern part of the city. This magnificent palace is located on Chittaranjan Avenue (C. R. Avenue) at Muktaram Babu Street, Chorabagan; Kolkata 700007.

The palace stands as one of the best-preserved and most stylish houses of nineteenth-century in the city. This mansion is popular for its alluring art forms from Italy, Netherlands, England and other European nations and of course marble walls and floors, from where it took its name.

This palace is positioned behind a large garden which has the sculptures of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, Hindu Gods, the Buddha and Christopher Columbus. There is a large water pool which is just nest to the small granite bungalow and this pool is comprised of ducks, peacocks and ostriches.

The palace is incorporated with marble statues, bronze images, woodwork, artworks, oil paintings and glass or porcelain artifacts. There is an exquisite collection of art, which attracts the tourists to visit this palace. The palace holds object-d-arts, statues, pictures & oil paintings in abundance, adding to it a majestic charm. You can also find here some of the Reubens masterpieces here in the palace. There is also an original painting of Sir Joshua Reynolds. The floor of the palace has a number of aviaries, floor to ceiling mirrors, marble statues and some rare animals in cages. This three-storey building has tall Corinthian pillars and Chinese pavilion type verandas on its corners.

The entrance to the Marble Palace is free and it is opened on all days except on Mondays and Thursdays. The visiting timing of the palace is from 10.00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M.
