Ramnagar Fort lies in the holiest city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, which has been built by Maharaja Balwant Singh in 17th century. This medieval period fort located in the banks of the river Ganges and is commonly known as the fort of Royal Scion of Varanasi.


The royal residence of the king of Banares, who is also known as Maharaja of Kashi, has its main attraction of a hall that is meant for the public audience, is commonly known by a name ‘Durbar Hall’. The fort is a perfect blend of the architecture that has the influence of both India and Islam.


The monument had been erected in the reign of Chandela Rajput Dynasty. The hall of public audience, popularly known as ‘Durbar Hall’, is a main attraction in the Ramnagar Fort. A blend of Indian and Islamic architecture can be seen in the construction of the Fort.


Today only a portion of the Ramgarh Fort is under the ownership of the royal family and the rest of it is conserved by the Government of India like a historical monument. It has also become one of the popular historical tourist attractions, when on a tour of the holy city of Varanasi.
