Shiv Niwas Palace was constructed in the 20th century, during the reign of Maharan Fateh Singh and till today it has been meticulously preserved and maintained. The literal meaning of the name of the palace is abode of Lord Shiva, the Hindu God, worshipped by the royal family of Mewar.
The palace of Shiv Niwas served as a residence to Maharana Fateh Singh and later was used as the accommodation complex for the royal guests. Today, it has converted into a heritage hotel and is an open palace to everyone.
The palace was opened as a heritage hotel by Maharana Bhagwat Singh in the year 1982 and found fame with the James Bond movie Octopussy, a part of which was filmed here.
