The Dutch Palace also known as the Mattancherry Palace is one of the famous monuments of Kochi, lies under the Indian state of Kerala. The marvel in itself, the Dutch Palace was built by the Portuguese and is presented to Raja Veera Kerala Varma of Kochi. The palace is built in typical Kerala style architecture, naalukettu and is having a Bhagavathi temple in the central courtyard. There are two more temples situated at the either side of the palace and are dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva respectively. The two storeyed structure of the palace that stands on the beautiful Kerala back waters offers the splendid view of the surroundings.


The building of the palace is available with the astounding murals which collectively covers the area of 300 sq. ft of its walls. These murals in the palace have borrowed their themes from the great Indian epics including the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Apart from that, Mythological legends and various Hindu Gods especially Guruvayurappan are all the important part of the murals at The Dutch Palace.
