The open-air carnival of the Brahmaputra Beach Festival is a unique as well as a traditional festival, which is held on the ravine beaches of the mighty River Brahmaputra, in the north eastern state of Assam. The annual festival of Brahmaputra beach is organized in the month of January and coincides with the Assamese festival of harvest known as Magh Bihu.


Inspired from festivals that are organized in the southern states of India, the very festival in north east state of Assam represents a confluence of the conventional with the modern with a tinge of the culture and tradition of the state.


The aim of the carnival is to promote and lionize the indigenous culture, crafts and popularizing traditional sports of Assam. This festival has been successful as it provides a platform for the versatile youths to unite their technical genius with the vibrant ‘cultural’ proportion through the various sport activities at the Brahmaputra Beach Festival.


Brahmaputra Beach Festival also aims at promoting the tourism in Assam and other North-eastern states through various ways such as sports and other cultural exhibitions. This colorful festival includes thrilling water sports and other events to cater to all age groups. The adventure sports that attracts the visitors are wind surfing, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, para-dropping, hot air ballooning etc. On the occasion, many traditional and cultural programs with a spark of entertainment are held which includes elephant race and kite flying.
