Vasant Panchami in Hindus is the festival that marks the end of the winter season and the coming of springs. The festival is celebrated in between the months of January and February during the Magha season. The festival is celebrated in various parts of India.
The festival is dedicated to the Goddess Saraswati and is thus religious significant for the people in India. Saraswati is the goddess of wisdom, intellect and learning. The color yellow holds a special meaning for this celebration as it signifies the brilliance of nature and the vibrancy of life. The young girls wear yellow colored dresses during the festival of Vasant Panchami. Infact, the whole place is decorated in yellow color.
Special feast called Kesar Halwa made from flour, sugar, nuts, and cardamom powder is also prepared at home during the festival. This dish also includes saffron strands, which gives it a vibrant yellow color and mild fragrance.
During the Vasant Panchami festival, India’s crop fields gets filled with the yellow colored mustard flowers bloom during this time of the year. Apart from that, Vasant Panchami is a public holiday. Government offices, schools, colleges do not operate on the day. Thus, the day is religious and culturally very important in India.
