Ram Navami is a Hindu festival, which celebrates the birth of the Hindu God Lord Rama to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya. He is believed to be the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is one of the most familiar and adored deities in the Hindu Patheon.


The Ram Navami festival happens to fall in the Shukla Paksha on the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra, as per the Hindu calendar. The celebration starts nine days before only nine days with fasting and prayers by the devotees and the concluding day itself, and is marked with several prayers, ceremonies and rituals. The period is also known as Shri Rama Navratra.


Various temples and religious institutions often read recall the birth and other important events of the life of Lord Rama and sang praises of Him. The festival is grandly celebrated with great fervor all across India, especially the holy places like Ujjain, Ayodhya and Rameshwaram, which draws thousands and thousands of devotees from all over the country and abroad. Especially in northern part of India various fairs are conducted.There are massive celebrations in the Rameshwaram Temple as to pay homage to the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
