Good Friday celebrates the final hours of Jesus Christ and is observed as a religious holiday. The day is commemorated in order to pay homage to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Cavalry, as described in the Bible. It is believed to fall in the holy week of Paschal Triduum. The historical event of sacrificial death of Christ, along with the resurrection has build up the Christian Faith. The day is also acknowledged as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday or Easter Friday. The Easter Friday is also known as the Friday in Easter week.
According to the Canonical Gospels, the Crucifixion of Jesus was in all probability to have been on a Friday. The year 33 AD has been estimated as the period of crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which was mentioned by the two different groups and according to Isaac Newton it was 34 AD, which differentiated because of the differences between the Biblical and Julian calendars and the crescent of the moon.
The people, especially Christians assemble at the church to perform and be a part of the solemn ceremonies of the day, in the adoration of Cross, chant Reproaches and much more. On this day, Christians attend special church services or pray on Good Friday and some people even go on fasting while others abstain from meat. There are processions along with enactments of the last hours of Jesus life. Services are also held in the churches.
