Gangaur, the famous festival of Rajasthan, India is celebrated with great joy and happiness. The festival is celebrated with full flavors of Rajasthani culture and tradition. Also, the festive celebration on the day can be seen in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and various other state and parts of the country. The festival is very popular amongst the women of the region in order to please Goddess Parvati.


The festival is celebrated in the months of March – April. Gangaur meant for Gana (another name of Lord Shiva) and Gaur (denotes Goddess Gauri). The festival is celebrated by the women and girls for their happy married life. The unmarried girls wish for their ideal husbands and the married women pray for the good health and long life of their husbands.


Apart from that, there is a tradition of Gangaur Savari during the festival is common. The festival lasts for three days and each day is celebrated with special color like pink, green and orange. People celebrate the occasion by singing and dancing with joy and happiness.


A big fair is also organized which is called as the Gangaur Mela to celebrated the festival. Various entertaining programs are organized at the Gangaur fair. Jhulas are also kept in the festival for the enjoyment. To increase the sweetness of the festival people used to make Ghewar and other delicious food items at home.
