Firozabad is located in the western part of the Indian state, Uttar Pradesh and also stands as the headquarter city of the district of Firozabad. This popular commercial center is just at a distance of 40 km from the architectural city of Agra.
This city is popularly known for its production of glassware and is commonly known as the ‘City of Glassware’. The city possesses a rich and vibrant history and this was the reason that the city got its initial name as ‘Chandwar Nagar’. During that period the territory was under the reign of Mughal Empire. Thereafter the district was named as ‘Firozabad’, with which the city is recognized today as well.
The city, even today holds the possession of the tomb of Firoz Shah, who was the Mughal Emperor Akbar’s Mansab Dar, the general. The city is just at a drive of 200 km from the country capital, Delhi. The place also holds importance of being mentioned in the period of 18th century as a Pargana also known as sub-division. The city has grown various leaders as e famous Chauhans of Mainpuri, Jamidar of Chandwar with local Mallahs took active parts in freedom struggle in 1857.
The city has been mentioned in the memorable “Khilafat Movement”, “Quit India Movement”, and “Namak Satyagrah” were arrested and sentenced to Kala pani by the East India company government.
