Bareilly is one of the important towns in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh and the major town in the district of Bareilly. The city stands as the former capital of Rohilkhand division. The town is situated at a distance of 252 km towards the northern direction of the state capital, Lucknow and 250 km towards the eastern direction of New Delhi, the national capital.


The city of Bareilly is also sometimes known as Bans-Bareilly for the fact it produces and trade of bamboo. The city is positioned on the banks of Ram Ganga, which holds a rich heritage and time honored history to boast about. The city has also been mentioned in the Epic Mahabharata as the capital of ‘Panchal’ rulers and as the birthplace of the legendary figures Draupadi. In the Medieval period the city came under the rule of Rohila. Then in 1657, Mukrand Rai laid the modern citys foundation.


While some historical facts, say that the region of Bareilly was first spotted by Jagat Singh Katehriya, who set up a village called Jagatpur in the first half of the fifteenth century. Therafter, two of his sons namely, Bans Deo and Barel Deo instituted the city of Bareilly.


The city is also famous for the Sufi-Barelvi sect Islam and Ahmed Raza Khan, the resident of the city started the movement and the city took its name from the city itself. In fact, the city is known as the citadel of Barelvi sect in Asia. There is a Ganga Temple that is also present in the city which is also worth visiting. Bankey Mandir and Chunne Miyan Mandir are also important temples in the city of Bareilly.


Some other religious attractions are the Darga Hazrat, the Church of North India, the Christ Methodist Church, Bibi Ji ki Masjid, Majare Aala Hazrat, Bara Burji Masjid, the Freewell Baptist Church, the Church of North India and Sri Sai Mandi. The city also has two museums in the city which are worth visiting and theses are army Service Corps Museum and the Panchala Museum.


Climate of Bareilly
The city has a subtropical type of climate and during summers the days are extremely hot, especially in the months of April and May. Then, there comes the monsoon season which takes away the heat from the city giving a sigh of relief. Here winters are quite cold and pleasant making it to be the best season to pay a visit to the city.
