Unakoti stands in the subdivision of Kailashahar, which forms a part of the Indian state Tripura in its northern side. Speaking loud in its silence, the city is a born bearer of exemplary work of art and culture that dates back to the ancient times. The city is bejeweled with the natural beauty and is also renowned for its multitude rock cut idols and rock figurines of the Hindu Mythology, which dates back to the 7th and 9th century AD.
The town is placed in the midst of the lush green landscape, rendering a view to numerous sight scenes. The rock images with the carvings on it depict the life of Lord Shiva and many other tales that are related to the Hindu Mythology.
According to the Hindu Mythology, the history of this place takes us back to the times of Gods and Goddesses. It is believed that Lord on his way to Kashi with his huge mass of disciples took rest in a shelter under the hill. Prior to sleeping, He instructed all to get up early on the next morning to continue their journey to Varanasi, but next morning He found that nobody carried out his orders and this made Him angry. He go so angry as the Lord cursed them all to convert into stone images and stay there dead like sleeping for ages and left alone only. These stone images are less than a crore in number and are still found there in that dead stony form.
On a beautiful hillock you will find the statuettes of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and many other Gods and Goddesses. Here, people worship this central figure of Shiva as Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava which is elevated at a height of about 30 ft. On sides of figure of Shiva, there is a full sized figure of Durga on one side and another not known.
For the protection of this site, Archeological survey of India has been in charge as this site has been declared as an important tourist sport by the government. This sacred place of Hindus keeps a belief that if a devotee who pays a visit to this place and prays with his pure heart his wish is fulfilled. The place has also been mentioned in Rajmala that describes the history of Royal Manikya Dynasty of the Tripura Kingdom.

Tourist sightseeing in Unakoti The city of Unakoti is famous for its rock cut images and store statues that counts to about to the number less than a crore. There are the statuettes of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and many other Gods and Goddesses. Here, people worship this central figure of Shiva as Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava which is elevated at a height of about 30 ft. there is also the head dress’s of about 10 feet high. There is also a statue of Durga standing on top of a lion and one more figure of a female on the either side of the central Shiva figure’s head dress. There are three images of Nandi bull as well, which are half covered under the earth.

Climate of Unakoti The city of Kumarghat experiences a pleasant and cool type of climate all the year round. It has moderate temperature all the year around. The summers are cool and pleasant, with again cool and enjoyable winters. The city witnesses, heavy rains in the months of June and lasts till the month of August. The best time to pay a visit to the city is in the months from October till the month of March.
