Rabdentse

Rabdentse

Rabdentse used to be recognized as the second capital of the former kingdom of Sikkim during the period of 1670 to 1814. However, this capital city was ruined by the Nepalese army and today one can find only the chortens and the relics of the palace.

It was all happened after the moment when the second Chogyal move in to the place from his royal base in Yuksom in 1670. Another factor of the present condition of this town is the close proximity of Nepal, being the reason of frictions between the Nepalese and the Monarchial Nation.  The town lost it power and was grabbed by the town Tumlong in 1814 by the then Chogyal, Tshudpud Namgyal. This town of Rabdentse was then left in ruins after the royal exodus.

The town is all flanked by the natural splendor with lush green forests, steep valleys along with a commendable backdrop of lofty hills. The place is a treat for a leisure walk which will leave your sense in a state of Déjà vu. This is truly a poetic landscape which creates an illusion of a fairyland with goldfish-filled placid lakes and exotic species of orchids.
