Jalgaonnestles in the western part of India in the Indian state of Mharashtra, sharing its name with its district. This small town is positioned on the northern Deccan Plateau. The existence of the city dates to 21st October in the year 1960 and before this period the city was commonly known with a name Khandesh. It is believed that this name Khandesh was originated from the word ‘Khan’. As per some sources, the name has been taken from the Kandava Forest, mentioned in Mahabharata.


Jalgaon became a part of the state of Bombay In 1956 and became a district in the state of Maharashtra, in 1960. It is a major place of attraction as featured on the tourist map of Maharashtra. Besides caves, there are ancient temples like Patnadevi, Omkareshwar Mandir and Ecchapurti Ganesh Temple and many cultural establishments at Jalgaon that attract people. The area of the city is very productive and fertile and has a Municipal corporation. Jalgaon has been developed into a major industrial area and has many educational institutes and hospitals.


Also acknowledged as “Banana-City”, Jalgaon makes the production of nearly half of the banana production in the state of Maharashtra is also titled as ‘The Banana Capital of India’.

Climate of Jalgaon
Jalgaon experiences a diverse kind of climate. Here summers are extremely hot and dry having its highest temperature in the month of May with 49.2 degrees Celsius, as recorded in the year 2010. The monsoon starts here in the month of June and remains in the front façade till the month of September. Winters here are quite cold bearing a pleasant weather making this season to be the best time to pay a visit to the place.
