Dewas is an ancient town, which is located on the Malwa plateau, which happens to stands in the West-central part of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The district of Dewas forms a part of the Ujjain’s Division. The town of Dewas is also the headquarters of the district of Dewas and previously was the seat of  the two 15 Gun Salute princely states during the British Raj and these are Dewas Junior state and Dewas senior state, which were under the influence of the royal Maratha Puar , also known as Pawar.


The town of Dewas is erected at an elevation of about535 m above the sea level. The district of Dewas covers an area of about 7,020 sq km and has been divided into 6 tehsils namely Sonkatch, Dewas, Bagli, Kannod, Tonk-Khurd and Khategaon.


The district of Dewas shares its boundaries with the district of Ujjain in its north, the district of Khandwa, formerly known as East Nimar in its south, the district of Indore in its west and the district of Sehore in its east. To the northeast of the Dwas District, there lies Shahjapur where as in ts southeast side the district touches the boundaries of Hoshangabad. In its southwest side, it shares its borders with Khargone, the West Nimar.


The name of the district has been derived from the hill’s name which used to be called as the Devi Vaishini and it was from here that the name Dewas (Dev-vas) has been originated from. Climate of Dewas
The town being the part of the state which lies in the heart of the country bears variations in its climate. The climate here is typical tropical type and has humid summers with pleasant winters. Here, summers starts from the month of March, which soars to severe heights. On the arrival of the monsoon season in the month of June, the town gets a sigh of relief, which lasts till the month of September. Winters here in the state are quite pleasant to bear. In fact, the best time to pay a visit to the town is in the months from November till February.

Dewas by Air: The nearest airport to Dewas is Devi Ahilya International Airport, which is situated in Indore, having distance of about 45 km, connecting the town with many major cities of the country as well as abroad.


Dewas by Rail: The town has its own railhead, Dewas Junction, which is a Standard Broad Gauge Railway Station belonging to Ratlam Division of  the Western Railway (India) Zone, connecting the town with many major cities of the country.


Dewas by Road: Dewas is well connected to major cities in state through extensive network of national and state highways. It is connected to NH3 and NH86, connecting to almost all the major cities of the country.
