The institute was once called as Hissar-e- Firoza which means the fort of Feroz. The town of Hisar is at a distance of about 162 kms from Delhi, the capital city of India. The district has its headquarters in the town itself and is spread over on are of 4191 sq kms.

Climate of Hisar Hisar experiences semi-arid and tropical climate, which goes into extreme as in summers, the climate is extremely hot and winters are bone chilling. It has sporadic rainfall even during the monsoon. The city takes a relief from the scorching heat of its summer in the month of June, which lasts till July, at an irregular intervals. The city generally experiences winter rains in the month of December till February.
