Situated at the confluence of the Eastern Yamuna Canal and the Asan River, Asan barrage is an attractive river to visit for the tourists. Asan barrage is located in near Dehradun in Uttrakhand state, India. The barrage is 287.5m long and is built at the height of 389.4m above sea level. The Asan barrage is an ideal place for bird lovers as the barrage serves to be the winter passage halt for a lot of Himalayan migratory birds. The birds are spotted here on their way to southern India during October – November and while returning from south in late February to march. By the end of October, the Asan witness the birds migrating from Pale arctic Region. Birds including shelduck, shoveller, mallard, coot, cormorant, egrets and Pond heron are spotted at the destination. Apart from that, Asan is also an ideal destination for ornithologists and naturalists who travel miles to explore the wide variety of bird such as wagtails. Wildlife lovers will have great time exploring the wide variety of birds at Asan Barrage.
