Built in 1976, Valluar Kottam is one of the popular monuments in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, India. Located towards the corner of Kodambakkam High Road and Village Road of Chennai, Vallur Kottam is built in the memory of Thiruvalluvar, the classical Tamil poet and saint who wrote his famous Thirukkurals about 2000 years before. Valluvar Kottam comprises of an auditorium and a memorial. The auditorium at the vallur Kottam can accommodate 4000 people at a time. The granite pillars surrounding the auditorium are written with Thirukkural.


There is a 101-feet high temple chariot structure with a big image of the poet in it. This chariot is a replica of the temple car of Thiruvarur in Tamil Nadu. The memorial is made up of 3000 stone blocks. The monument remains closed on Fridays and on national holidays. Tourist can visit the place from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm on rest of the days. Apart from that, the entry fee to the monument is Rs. 10 for adults and Rs. 5 for children. Large number of tourists from all over the world visits the place to explore the magnificent beauty of the monument.
